Guppy has had a long career in the United Kingdom, where he has played for Wycombe Wanderers (1989-94 and 2004), Newcastle United (1994), Port Vale (1994-97), Leicester City (1997-2001 and 2004). It was in his first spell with the foxes that he was most successful playing in over 140 matches under Martin O'Neill. He was, during this time, placed in second on a list of the best crossers in Europe behind David Beckham. Also, it was whilst at Leicester he gained his only England cap. He later joined Martin O'Neill at Celtic (2001-04). And after being released by Celtic after previously being on loan back at Leicester, he played for Leeds United (2004), Stoke City (2004), and also a short spell back at Wycombe. His short stint in Major League Soccer with D.C. United was not memorable, as he was released by the club after playing in just five league games in which he was featured in a starting line-up alongside Freddy Adu in midfield.
