Background

Steve Stifler, known to his friends and enemies as Stifler and to himself as "The Stiffmeister", is one of the central characters of the American Pie series. An arrogant, sometimes bullyish, and oversexed jock, Stifler is not part of the main clique of characters from the films. However, the group maintained a reluctant friendship with the popular, though completely obnoxious jock and as such, are granted access through Stifler, to parties that he regularly throws for his fellow popular high school students. Indeed, it is stated one of the main characters, that the only reason that the group even acknowledges Stifler's very existence is due to the fact that he invites the group to parties that they normally would never be invited to attend, most notably the post-prom party that Stifler throws in the final act of the first American Pie film. Stifler's parents, Eric and Jeanine Stifler, are divorced with Stifler and his brother living with their mother. Stifler does not have any close friends; it is heavily implied during the trilogy and in the film American Pie: Band Camp, that Stifler is in reality, hated by all and that those that he considers "friends", are in reality hangers on who put up with Stifler's obnoxiousness in order to gain spill-over perks, such as being invited to Stifler's often decadent beer and sex-fueled parties.

During the film, Stifler is shown to associate with members of his school's lacrosse team. Despite his obnoxious behaviour, Stifler changes his ways and both inadvertently (dance off with Bear which leads to Leslie Summers designing Michelle's dress) and directly (teaching Jim to dance, as long as Stifler could be in charge of the bachelor party and could have a dildo show) helps Jim and Michelle's wedding become a success. Towards the end of the film, he is seen as a real friend by the other guys, so much so that he begins to not hate Finch, but when he is reminded of the fact that Finch "Fucked your mom, twice", the hatred returns, but perhaps not as strongly as before.

While not part of the sex pact, Stifler plays a crucial role in the film in two ways: his post-prom party (for which an invitation to, was the main motivation for the main four characters to even associate with Stifler) served as the setting for the film's final act.

Stifler also becomes obsessed with ruining one of the main characters (Finch) by exposing him as a geek to the girls of the school after Finch arranges for rumors (including one where he had defeated Stifler in a fight) about himself to be spread across the school in order to make him desirable as a prom date, resulting in Stifler's planned date dumping him in hopes of getting asked out by Finch. Stifler's revenge culminated in him putting Pentalax, a potent laxative, into Finch's drink of choice (moccachino), giving him a case of explosive diarhea that results in Finch being humiliated in from of a large group of female classmates. Finch however got revenge by making one of the rumors accurate, which was bedding Stifler's mother.

American Pie 2

Stifler reappeared in American Pie 2, having boasted of bedding 23 separate girls during his freshman year of college. Along with the main clique of the film series, Stifler helps chip in cash to rent a beachhouse on Lake Michigan with the rest of the group. In this movie Stifler gets pissed on by a guy whilst under the impression that a girl is pouring champagne on him. During the summer, Stifler becomes obsessed with the owners of the house that they were hired to paint; two female friends who Stifler blinkeredly regards as lesbians, who deal with Stifler's obsession ultimately by offering to engage in varying degrees of lesbian sexual activities in front of him, Jim and Finch in exchange for the guys engaging in corresponding degrees of homosexual acts. The first is Stifler groping Finch's buttocks, the second is Stifler and Jim kissing, and the third one would have been for Stifler to receive handjobs from Finch and Jim, which Stifler is surprisingly willing to do. This freaks Jim and Finch out too much that they run off. This annoys Stifler, as the more the guys would have done, the more the girls would have done. At the main party at the beachhouse at the end of the film, the two girls arrive, telling Stifler they never said they were lesbians, that gets Stifler far more excited and ends up in bed with them both. Stifler is revealed to have become a high school football assistant coach; he also drives the team's bus. He drops in on Jim and Michelle's engagement party, much to Michelle's dismay. He is also implicated in an unusual Jim-plus-two-dogs foursome (which Stifler admitted to enjoying). He later competes with Finch for the heart of Cadence, Michelle's younger sister. He switches personalities with Finch (Stifler becoming a kind gentleman, while Finch becomes a vulgar frat boy) so that he can win Cadence. Eventually she chooses him and tells him to meet her to have sex in a closet. He accidentally however gets to have sex with Jim's grandmother. Worse in this movie Stifler literally eats shit.

Before having sex with Cadence, Stifler accidentally destroys the massive flower arrangement Michelle's family had ordered for the wedding, resulting in Michelle and Cadence turning against him. However, Stifler redeems himself at the end of the film: using the football team as his minions, Stifler uses his own money to buy up the entire content of a nearby flower shop and has the football team successfully set up the flowers for the wedding hours before it is to occur. By doing this, Cadence eventually falls for him and invites him to have sex in the closet. Stifler accidentally has sex with Jim's grandmother, who was put in there because she was "being a bitch". At the reception, Stifler danced with Cadence.

American Pie: Band Camp
