Steven Holl (born December 9, 1947, Bremerton, Washington) is an American academic architect best known for the 1988 Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum in Helsinki, Finland and the controversial 2003 Simmons Hall at MIT. Holl, whose major buildings include the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, in Helsinki, and a dormitory at M.I.T., has tended to present himself as an architect driven by impulses other than an interest in solving practical problems.
Holl’s lenses, placed to the right, disturb this symmetry and form a row roughly perpendicular to the older building and following the gradient of the hill.
