Stevens Point, Wisconsin is a town in Central Wisconsin. It was named after Mr. Stevens, who ran several saloons on what is today known as "The Square," where the loggers on the Wisconsin River could stop for a meal.
It's also home to The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.
StevensPoint is served by the Green Bay and Western and the Minneapolis, St Paul and Sault Ste Marie railways.
It is the seat of one of the state normal schools (1894), of St Josephs Academy (Polish), and of the StevensPoint Commercial College, and has a Carnegie library (1904), the Portage county court-house, a city hospital, and a tuberculosis sanatorium.
StevensPoint was first settled by George Stevens in 1839, was incorporated as a village in 1847, and was first chartered as a city in 1858.
