Stichting Max Havelaar (or the Max Havelaar Foundation in English) is the Dutch member of Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO), which unites 20 national Fairtrade initiatives across Europe, Japan, North America, Australia and New Zealand. It is named after Max Havelaar, which is both the title and the main character of a Dutch 19th-century novel (written by Multatuli) critical of Dutch colonialism in the Dutch East Indies.
