SBR Chronology

  • 1998: Jason Bright signs up to drive Pirtek-sponsored Falcon. Won Bathurst 1000 with Steven Richards as co-driver.
  • 1999: Bright wins the Hidden Valley round, scores three pole positions and podium finishes.
  • 2000: SBR expands to a two-car team, with Craig Baird taking Bright's seat in the Pirtek car, and Tony Longhurst driving the new Caltex Falcon. Baird finishes on podium at Phillip Island.
  • 2001: Marcos Ambrose and David Besnard take the driving duties in the Pirtek and Caltex Falcons respectively. Ambrose wins one round, and two podiums; Besnard takes one podium. Ambrose finishes 8th in the Championship, and wins Rookie of the Year.
  • 2002: Ambrose and Besnard win 3 rounds between them, and several podiums. Ambrose finishes 3rd in the Championship - the first Ford.
  • 2003: Ambrose continues in Pirtek Falcon, but Russell Ingall takes over from Besnard in the Caltex car. Between them, they win eight rounds (out of 13) and five pole positions. Ambrose won the Championship, earning himself the Car #1 for the 2004 season, and Ingall finished 7th. Mark Winterbottom won the V8 Development Series in an SBR Falcon.
  • 2004: Ambrose and Ingall finish 1st and 2nd in the Championship, giving SBR a win in the Team Championship. They recorded 6 round wins, 5 to Ambrose and 1 to Ingall and 5 pole positions between them.
  • 2005: Ingall wins Championship with consistency with 1 round win and several podiums, thus taking the #1 from Ambrose. Ambrose finished 3rd after leading championship till disastorus Bathurst round. SBR again wins teams championship.
  • 2006: Ambrose leaves V8 Supercar to try his hand at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and Pirtek withdraws its sponsorship. Former F1 Test Driver James Courtney takes his seat in the newly re-liveried Jeld-Wen Falcon. Ingall finished eighth in the championship after having lead early, a somewhat disappointing result for the defending champion. A lack of early-weekend speed seemed to be the culprit - the #1 Caltex car was often outside the Top 10 in qualifying, and only found front-running speed at the tail-end of the weekend. James Courtney was finished 11th, a respectable result, particularly after a disappointing start to the season. A highlight for the team was Bathurst - Courtney and Glenn Seton finished 3rd, while Ingall and Luke Youlden were just 0.0005 of a second behind them at the finish line. This was an outstanding team result - taking the biggest collective haul of points for the team's championship at the round, as other teams had one or both cars either down the order, or out of the race. This result helped SBR to 4th place in the Team's Championship.
