Strathbogie Shire is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the north-eastern part of the State and has an area of 3,293 square kilometres. The Shire includes the towns of Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town. In 2001 it had a population of 9,200, of which almost a third reside in the central town of Euroa, where is the local government offices are located. Only about 150 km from Melbourne, bordered to the east by the picturesque Strathbogie Ranges and to the west by the Nagambie Lakes district, the Shire contains the best of everything Victorian. It is also well-known for its sheep production (home of the original Merinos) horse studs (earning the title "The Horse Capital of Victoria"), wineries (Mitchelton, Tahbilk, Plunkett's), olives and alpacas. Tourism is a growing industry in the area, with many B&Bs, hotels and restaurants.
