Stratmoor is a census-designated place located in El Paso County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,650.


Geography

Stratmoor is located at 38°46'32" North, 104°46'55" West (38.775644, -104.781840)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.6 km˛ (2.9 mi˛). 7.5 km˛ (2.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.68% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,650 people, 2,209 households, and 1,705 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 882.3/km˛ (2,283.3/mi˛). There are 2,284 housing units at an average density of 303.0/km˛ (784.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 65.65% White, 12.27% African American, 2.06% Native American, 2.59% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 9.16% from other races, and 8.00% from two or more races. 19.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 2,209 households out of which 42.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 17.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% are non-families. 15.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.97 and the average family size is 3.27.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 32.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.7 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $37,662, and the median income for a family is $39,145. Males have a median income of $26,514 versus $22,463 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,776. 12.0% of the population and 9.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The county seat is Colorado Springs, the second largest city in Colorado.
In 2004, the voters of Colorado Springs and El Paso County established the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority [1] and adopted a 1% sales tax dedicated to improving the region's transportation infrastructure.
Originally based in Old Colorado City (now part of Colorado Springs, not today's Colorado City between Pueblo and Walsenburg), El Paso County's county seat was moved to Colorado Springs in 1873.
