'Street cred' is a phrase meaning "credibility on the street", that is, the degree to which one is to be trusted within the network of the street culture of a given urban area. In some circles it may presume a tolerant or indifferent attitude towards criminal activity, and a hostility or disregard for official authorities. More generally it is seen as being a measure of a person's authenticity and experience. It has been co-opted as an indicator of cultural value, sophistication, or ability within the mainstream of the North American Alternative culture.
