Encyclopedia > Studs (game show)

Studs was a popular American television game show which ran on FOX from 1991 to 1993, hosted by Mark DeCarlo. In general, the show follows a somewhat similar format to that of The Dating Game and Love Connection. In the first half of the program, an unmarried, single female contestant was offered a selection of numerous eligible bachelors who in turn would do just about anything to get her vote in the end. In the second half, interviews were conducted with a pair of contestants from a previously aired episode in which they would each at times explicitly depict their rendezvous. Although the show earned high ratings among young viewers and was fairly popular during the early 90s, the then-spouse of FOX head Rupert Murdoch was not a fan of the series and in fact protested her husband's decision to air the game show. Studs ranked #47 on GSN's 2006 countdown of the 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time.
