Sublime is the hit album released by the eponymous band. It was originally intended to be called Killin' It, but the band and record label agreed to respectfully substitute an eponymous title due to lead singer Bradley Nowell's death before the album's release. The album was a major commercial success, going five times platinum in 1999 and etching Sublime into a permanent place among the stars of mid-90s alternative rock. Its most popular single, "What I Got", was an uncharacteristically poppy song; the bulk of the album was faithful to Sublime's ska, dub, and reggae influences, with tempos ranging from the frantic — such as "Seed," "Same in the End," and "Paddle Out" — to the slow and deliberate, such as "Pawn Shop" and "Jailhouse." Sublime Spot - About Sublime (4942 words)
SUBLIME is a style and a vibe encompassing music, attitude, and alternative meets hip-hop, and surf-skate fashion which remains most apparent in the young and growing audience which the band attracts at every show.
The story of Sublime is full of sad, strange twists, but this is perhaps the strangest: Since frontman Brad Nowell overdosed before his band became a phenomenon, before he had a chance to become a bona fide rock star, his death has been oddly free of the mythic impact of so many rock star flameouts.
Sublime's success has come as a slow-building surprise, rather than in a rush of mourning, and it's been based on the sweet fun Nowell cooked up during his too-short 28-year love affair with punk, hip-hop, reggae and whatever other music he could lay his hands on.
Bradley Nowell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (2823 words)
Despite the fact that he died before his band Sublime became famous, Nowell has become a pop culture icon arguably in the tradition of the late Kurt Cobain, to whom Nowell is occasionally compared.
In the video "Sublime - Stories, Tales, Lies and Exaggerations" [5] Troy Nowell (Bradley Nowell's widow) says that for the week during which Lou Dog was lost, Brad spent a great deal of time lying on the couch crying in response to the loss of his dog.
Sublime's major label debut album Sublime was released on July 30, 1996.
