Sucking in the Seventies is the fourth official compilation album by The Rolling Stones and was released in 1981. As the successor to 1975's Made in the Shade, it covers material from 1974's It's Only Rock'n Roll to 1978's Some Girls, the band feeling that the Emotional Rescue material was too new to anthologize. Specially for this release, new mixes - many of them edited - were created, while some rarity material was added in the process. "Everything Is Turning To Gold" was previously released as "Shattered"'s B-Side in late 1978 in the US only, "If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)" is a continuation of the opening track on Emotional Rescue, while "When The Whip Comes Down" is presented in an exclusive live version. Thus, in spite of succeeding compilations, Sucking in the Seventies - unlike Made in the Shade - remains an invaluable and necessary album for Rolling Stones completists. Strangely, it overlooks The Rolling Stones' biggest success - and only #1 hit - during this period, "Miss You". Released in the spring of 1981, as Tattoo You was nearing its completion, Sucking in the Seventies reached #15 in the US, going gold, although it failed to chart in the UK. 1981 is a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar. ...
