According to Korean Buddhist legend, Sukjong was struck by a dream one night, and awoke with the memory so vivid in his mind that he ordered someone to investigate one of his castle's gates. There he found a Buddhist priest, whom he asked to pray for his queen (actually a concubine) so that she would have a son. The next year she bore him a prince and later ruler of Joseon, Yeongjo.
