His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah is the Sultan of Brunei, the eldest son of Sir Omar Ali Saifuddin Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the previous sultan.
The Sultan has married a total of three times, the second marriage to a Singaporean air stewardess ending in divorce and his most recent to a former Malaysian TV3 presenter occuring in August 2005 (although not yet offically gazetted in Brunei).
The Sultan of Brunei is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and has received an honorary doctorate from a Russian University.
