The relaxed and prettily located town of Sumedang lies two hours northeast of Bandung, and is famous throughout Java, Indonesia for tahun Sumedang (deep fried bean curd). Set among volcanic peaks, Sumedang has a fine local museum, and offers a quiet retreat to break the journey from Bandung to Cirebon. In town, on Jalan Geusan Ulun stands an excellent little museum, Praba Geusan Ulun, which houses a good collection of traditional Sundanese weaponry, as well as the crown jewels and other finery of the Pajajaran Kings.
The 1684m Gunung Tampomas north of the town is an added attraction, clumbable within a day from the village of Cimalaka (7km north of Sumedang), and the adventurous are rewarded with terrific viewes across the peaks and tarmlands, of the surrounding area. To get there, take a bemo to Cimalaka and ask for "Galian Pasi", the gravel-mining site from which a comfortable trail winds uphill. It's possible ro find a guide in the village. This volcanic area also offers good opportunities for cycling and motorcycling.

Bahkan sebelum Muri mengumumkan pemecahan rekor tersebut, Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Sumedang juga memberikan hasil kajian seputar tingkat kebersihan, berdasarkan bahan baku yang dipakai, alat yang dipergunakan, serta kebersihan pakaian para pembuat tahu itu sendiri.
Berkat ucapan sang pangeran, tiba-tiba tahu Sumedang berubah menjadi sosok makanan khas yang tidak pernah dimiliki oleh daerah lainnya.
