Sun Valley is a census-designated place located in Washoe County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 19,461.

Sun Valley is located at 39°35'47" North, 119°46'28" West (39.596390, -119.774345)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 38.8 km˛ (15.0 mi˛). 38.8 km˛ (15.0 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,461 people, 6,380 households, and 4,816 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 500.9/km˛ (1,297.2/mi˛). There are 6,703 housing units at an average density of 172.5/km˛ (446.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 79.78% White, 2.20% African American, 1.93% Native American, 2.21% Asian, 0.62% Pacific Islander, 9.51% from other races, and 3.74% from two or more races. 21.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 6,380 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 13.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% are non-families. 15.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.39.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.0 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,346, and the median income for a family is $43,103. Males have a median income of $30,804 versus $24,059 for females.
