Encyclopedia > Sunday Herald

Herald is a common name for newspapers throughout the English-speaking world, and the Sunday editions are often called Sunday Herald. Various places have Sunday Heralds, including:

Contents

Scotland

A Sunday broadsheet newspaper by the name of Sunday Herald was launched on 7 February 1999 under the editorship of Andrew Jaspan by the Scottish Media Group.

Along with its sister titles The Herald and Evening Times it was sold on 5 April 2003 to Newsquest (a Gannett company) after a very public media debate. Questions were raised in the Scottish Parliament when the Barclay brothers, owners of rival papers The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, looked set to become owners. As of 2004, the editor is Andrew Jaspan, who announced in July 2004 that he is resigning to become editor of The Age in Melbourne, Australia. In September 2004 Richard Walker was named as the new editor of the Sunday Herald. Walker, 49, had been with the title since its launch and had served as deputy to Jaspan for five years.
