"Super Trouper" was a hit single for Swedish pop group ABBA. It was the title track from their album Super Trouper, written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus in 1980, with "The Piper" as the single's B-side, also written by the Andersson/Ulvaeus partnership. The album, already named Super Trouper, had nine songs included on it, but a tenth was needed. Thus, a new song was created, with the title "Super Trouper", conceived in a number of days. The lead vocal was performed by Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Image File history File links Super_Trouper. ... The 'Super Trouper' is the name of a range of followspots which are the type of light which appear brightest and keep the performer lit. It is widely known that ABBA were not always fond of performing onstage, preferring the studio to being on the road and constantly on tour. This is reflected in the lyrics, which, in typical ABBA style are presented as upbeat, yet tinged with an underlying hint of sadness.

Chart success

"Super Trouper" provided ABBA with their ninth and final number one hit in the United Kingdom. The single achieved a high level of success in the charts elsewhere in Europe, topping the charts in Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and West Germany. It hit number two in Norway, number three in Switzerland and Austria, number five in Finland, and number eight in France and Spain. In the USA, where ABBA never quite managed to achieve the same sort of popularity experienced elsewhere, the single peaked at number forty-five. However, combined with "Lay All Your Love on Me" and "On and On and On", it managed to top the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.
