Superman began as a feature in Action Comics #1 in June 1938. The strip proved so popular that he launched into his own self-titled comic book, the first for any superhero in the Summer of 1939. The Superman comic book first began being published quarterly, later bi-monthly until the late 1950s and from now to present monthly. The Superman comic book ended with issue #423 in Sept 1986 and Action Comics also went on a three month hiatus, while the new Man of Steel mini-series was published, introducing the Post-Crisis On Infinite Earths Superman. After Man of Steel, Action Comics returned and a new Superman Volume 2 #1 was published. Also a new title, Adventures of Superman continuing the numbering of the original Superman title with #424. The new Superman comic book reached issue #226 in Apr 2006 and was then cancelled in the Infinite Crisis storyline. Adventures of Superman was also returned back to its original title, Superman, with issue #650 the following month and with Action Comics continues publication.
