The Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia was the first National Parliament of the Republic of Georgia in the post-Soviet era (in 1990 - 1992). The parliamentary elections of October 28, 1990 were the first democratic, multiparty elections in the Caucasus. Chairmen of the Supreme Council were Zviad Gamsakhurdia (the first democratically elected President in 1991-1992) and Akaki Asatiani. 1st Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council was Nemo Burchuladze, Deputy Chairman - the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ajaria Aslan Abashidze. After military coup d'etat of December 22, 1991-January 6, 1992, the Supreme Council, Government and President Gamsakhurdia were forced to leave Georgia.
