Susenghphaa (reign 1603-1641), also called Pratap Singha, was one of the great Ahom kings. His reign saw an expansion of the Ahom kingdom to the west, the beginning of the Ahom-Mughal conflicts and the establishment of the Paik system. His expansion to the west is underlined by the two new offices that he created: that of the Barbaruah and the Barphukan. He established kinship relationships with the rulers of Koch Hajo. For his organizational capability, political acumen and his great wisdom, he is also known as Buddhi Swarganarayan. Pratap Singha, Susengphaa, a descendant of Suklengmung (Gargoyaan Rojaa), ascended the throne in 1603. He created a new post of Barphukan to look after the administration of the areas beyond Kaliabor. The three classes of ministers Buragohain, Borgohain and Borpatra Gohain had their well defined areas to rule and function, and those part of the kingdom which did not fall under their jurisdiction were brought under the control of Barbaruah, a new post created during the rule of Pratap Singha. Momai Tamuli Barbaruah was the first official to hold this post. Pratap Singha an able administrator who introduced new form of governance and tried to improve the life of the citizens. He also introduced 'Paik' system. Under this system, people were divided into groups of 1000, 100 and 20 paiks, with officials Hazarika, Saikia and Bora respectively were elected to oversee these Paiks. Creation of other posts like Rohiyal Barua, Jagiyal Gohain, Kajalimukhiya Gohain is also credited to him.
