The suburb of Sutherland is the seat of Sutherland Shire, Australia. It is adjacent to Kirrawee and Woronora. It has a rather small commercial region and a major residential area, however is host to many urban facilities such as a general purpose entertainment center where citizenship ceremonies take place for individuals living in the Shire, local government council offices, and a major central library. Geographically, it is the area to the south of Botany Bay.
Sutherland Railway Station was opened in 1885, named after John Sutherland, a Minister of Works during the 1870s who had argued most forcefully for the railway.
The Sutherland Shire workforce is highly educated, with significant skills derived from vocational qualifications and a large share of the population with an advanced diploma, diploma or tertiary qualification.
