Brief History

Nicknamed "The Swans", the club played from its formation in 1912 (as Swansea Town) until 1925 at the Vetch Field in Swansea city centre. The early 1980's were Swansea's halcyon years, under the guidance of then player-Manager, John Toshack, the Swans gained promotion to the old First Division in 1981, winning 3 consecutive Welsh Cups and subsequently appearing in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup as well. However, as fast as Swansea rose up the Football League, a decline ensued just as quickly. Throughout the club's history there has been a fierce rivalry with Scumdiff City due to the fact that Cardiff fans are jealous of the clubs wealth and illustrious history. In the year 2000 Swansea won promotion to the Nationwide Division 2(Now League One)under manager John Hollins after drawing 1-1 with Rotherham at Millmoor, subsequently both teams won promotion that day but Swansea finished as champions. The game was marred by violent scenes and a Swansea fan, Terry Coles was killed by a Police Horse. The Swans spent one season in Division 2 and were relegated back to Divison 3. Hard years followed and Swansea narrowly avoided dropping into the nether regions of English Football under manager Brian Flynn but local boy James Thomas fired a hat-rick in the last game of the season in a 4-2 win over Hull. Flynn resigned and after a few failed managers the board appointed Kenny Jackett. Jackett won promotion to the Coca Cola league one in the final season at the Vetch Field with a 1-0 win at Bury, 5000 fans witnessed the win at Gigg Lane.
