The history of the Swiss Bank Corporation ("SBC") dates to 1856 and the constitution of an underwriting consortium, or "Bankverein," by six private banks in Basel--Bischoff zu St Alban, Ehinger & Cie., J. Merian-Forcart, Passavant & Cie., J. Riggenbach and von Speyr & Cie., who formed an underwriting consortium in Basel, Switzerland. The company was formally organized as Basler Bankverein in 1871. It later joined forces with Zürcher Bankverein in 1895 to become Basler & Zürcher Bankverein. The next year, Basler Depositenbank and Schwizerische Unionbank were acquired. The Swiss banks knew that the agents and representatives of the Nazi Regime and the Regime itself was looting and plundering the assets of others in furtherance of their war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against peace, and genocide.
The Swiss banks engaged in a common scheme or conspiracy in furtherance of their objective of profiting from their activities in aiding and abetting, or acting in complicity and collaboration with, the Nazi Regime with respect to looting and slave labor activities.
The banks acted in concert, and engaged in a common set of practices to prevent and derail inquiries by heirs of victims of Nazi Regime atrocities whose assets were deposited in Swiss bank accounts, and by persons whose assets were looted and cloaked by the Nazis and placed in Swiss bank accounts.
