Swissvale is a borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania' nine miles (14 km) east of downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Named for a farmstead owned by abolitionist and early feminist Jane Swisshelm, during the industrial age it was the site of the Union Switch and Signal Company of George Westinghouse. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 9,653. In 1940, 15,919 people lived here. In the late 70’s, Gary Scott and Ray Falcsik, both natives of Swissvale, Pennsylvania were playing in a popular local band and working at a factory called the Union Switch and Signal which was located where Edgewood Town Center is today.
Swissvale Music was beginning to become a very boutique-product based outlet.
As the store closes out its third decade in business with everyone that was present when the store began its first, all eyes look forward and all minds are focused on new and innovative ways to run a well-established music business in the 21st century and beyond.
