It already carries some of the typical 'Symphony X sound', but is not highly appreciated, because of the poor singer and maybe even worse production, carried out by the band members themselves. Re-recording
Because the Symphony X album is not entirely what it was supposed to be, rumours of a re-recording emerged in 2002. The result was to be expected in 2003/4, but nothing happend so far, although guitarist Michael Romeo has confirmed the idea of rerecording some of the songs. One track already has been re-recorded: Masquerade '98 is featured on Prelude To The Millennium and on the limited edition of The Odyssey.
SymphonyX are at their most mentally stimulating to listen to when their use of timing is at its most interesting or technical.
The timing alterations that SymphonyX used on the verses of Accolade II are actually annoying when you have heard the original song, as the chorus seemed to sound the best on the original version of the song with their original timing.
SymphonyX are an intelligent band, (at least they used to - and hopefully will continue to - write fairly intelligent worlds and music), and although it doesnt indicate intelligence immediately, it is nice to see that some of the band members read.
Symphonies at this time, whether for concert, opera, or church use, were not considered the major works on a program: often, as with concerti, they were divided up between other works, or drawn from suites or overtures.
Anton Webern (1883-1945), Austrian Composer of 1 symphony (1928).
Krzysztof Penderecki (born 1933), Polish composer of 8 symphonies (as of 2005).
