The Buff Howards (TBH) is a Metal band located in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania. The Band started in 2003 after the band Trickle Down Travesty broke up because of the bass player's lack of talent. The founding members of The Buff Howards all were members of Trickle Down Travesty. The members of The Buff Howards are Josh Ressler-Guitar, Steve Shinberg-Guitar, and Andrew Metzger-Drums. In 2004, Josh Ressler took up Bass because the band could not find a replacement for the original Bass player in Trickle Down Travesty. The band's first album, "You son of a Pitch" included the single, "Eduardo's Song" which became a big hit around Cheltenham High School. The song included Eduardo Nelson's fiery rap about his life with a death metal chorus. In "You son of a Pitch", the band experimented with many different genres of music. There was rap, hardcore, death metal, thrash metal, and elements of classic rock. Two videos were produced after "You Son of a Pitch." The music videos were "I Hate Republicans" and "American Terrorist." These two songs were originally Trickle Down Travesty singles, but the band broke up before they could be released. Besides these two music videos, a live video of the band playing the album was filmed. The video with the music videos and the live video were never released to the Around this time, Steve Shinberg and Josh Ressler created Steveco Records to record local bands for a cheap price. During the short history of the record label, Steveco has recorded rappers Crackalard and Bustacap and the metal band Orotund, the ska band Green Pepper, and The Buff Howards. After the release of "You Son of a Pitch", the band started writing a CD called KVLT MVRDR which was supposed to be an album with more Black Metal roots. The single that was supposed to go on this CD was FVK MTZGR, a deep and heavy black metal song using a drum machine about the Band's drummer, Andrew Metzger. The album never hit the shelves because during the summer of 2005, the bass player Josh disappeared. During this time, the band began to change direction. Instead of writing a black metal album, the group began to write a concept album about the disappearance of Josh, who was known as Dumpus at the time. The song AP was written about the advanced placement test because Josh had to skip practice. AP really brought life back into the band. At this point Josh came to practice more because of his departure from the Cheltenham Ska band, Green Pepper. After AP was written, a long 15 minute song called "Face of Melissa" which was written about the bands biggest fan, Melissa because she wanted it to be about her. The group brought in Chris Holland on lead guitar for this song to play a solo over a few of the riffs. Chris Holland is most known for being in the band called Ipacak. After Ipacak broke up, Chris tried out to be in the band Necrophagist and had direct contact with Muhammed. Chris Holland is also in the band Orotund. The song was a triumph. TBH's "Face of Melissa" could be considered one of the greatest original songs to come out of the Cheltenham music scene. The Buff Howards recently played at the 2006 Cheltenham Battle of the Bands. They completely and utterly destroyed the band The Chairs. The guitarist from The Chairs wanted to have places. His plan backfired when his band came in last place. The Buff Howards now have a growing fan base and are quickly becoming one of Cheltenham's premiere bands.
