1972 Triumph TR6

The Triumph TR6 (19691976) was the best-selling Triumph in history when production ended in 1976, but was later surpassed by the TR7. More than 94,000 TR6s were built, ninety percent of them to US specifications. The TR6 was a refined sports car. It featured pile carpet on floors and boot (trunk), plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation.


In the US, it featured the six-cylinder engine that was carried over from the TR250, while the UK version had a more powerful fuel-injected engine from the TR5 that included the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system. It traces its lineage back to the four-cylinder Triumphs: TR4, TR4A, TR3/TR3A and TR2. The Triumph TR250 was built between 1968 and 1969 for 15 months by the Triumph Motor Company in the United Kingdom, during which time approximately 8,480 cars were built, all of which were for the American market. ... The Triumph TR6 was the ultimate incarnation of the chassis-based Triumph TR series that had begun with the TR2 in 1953.
The semi-trailing independent rear suspension of the TR6, with cast aluminium arms, is similar to that introduced for the TR4A.
On the TR6, which had six ratios, including overdrive third, the gearing in 4th went up from 21.2 mph/1000 rpm to 26.6 mph/1000 rpm in overdrive.

Built from 1968 to 1976 the Triumph TR6 was the last incarnation of the separate chassis, TR range of Triumph sports cars.

When we purchased the TR6 from TR Bitz in Warrington, they installed a new metering unit fitted with unleaded seals, and we have run it on unleaded petrol ever since.
