The name is the Latin word for mole (the animal), mol in Dutch, which refers to the surname of its founder, Dutch multi-billionaire John de Mol. Talpa currently holds the television rights to summaries of matches played in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top-flight football league. The live broadcasting rights are held by Versatel, another De Mol venture. Het vergelijkt natuurlijk makkelijk, maar voor Talpa is het alleen van belang hoe het scoort in leeftijdsgroep 20-49.
