Encyclopedia > Tambo

Tambo can refer to: Tambo: (son of Tony Little) In modern mythology he is known as the god of nick-names. Having over 100,000 himself his real name was forgotten long ago. It is believed that he had the power to summon his nicknames as actual people to do his bidding making the location of the original Tambo impossible to find. The only way to kill a Tambo is to somehow remove its hat, causing a fit so powerful that the beast turns to stone. The Tambo came from the province of Rondout a place in which a large monster lives under the main hall and sustains itself by consuming the names of Rondouts occupants, this may explain the origins of Tambo's nicknames. The connection to the hat also comes from the homeland of Tambo. In the back of Rondout the residents are tied to a tree for 8 years and a wild puma circles the tree attacking those tied to it. Freedom is only granted from the tree once the resident has survived the puma for 8 years and then is granted the hat of freedom.

The unveiling of the tombstone of past ANC President and National Chairperson, Oliver Reginald Tambo, is an occasion for all South Africans to remember and celebrate the central contribution of this great leader to the creation of a democratic South Africa.
As the leader of the ANC throughout the three decades in exile, 'O.R.' Tambo was responsible for building the ANC into an organisation both within and outside the country which had the strength, cohesion and mass support to bring down apartheid and create a democratic South Africa.
Always a strategist, Tambo foresaw in the 1980s that the apartheid regime would soon be forced to enter into negotiations with the ANC and other genuine representatives of the people.
