The 1st round saw Tamworth drawn away to Football League One side Bournemouth, Tamworth started brightly and gave as good as they got with both sides going close early on, before Graham Ward was quickest to latch onto a through ball and managed to lift it over the advancing Gareth Stewart in the Bournemouth goal and send the Tamworth fans into raptures as the ball crossed the line on the 29th minute. Tamworth's celebrations were however short lived and reality returned when Brian Stock hit a free-kick to equalise on the 45th minute and send the teams in level at half-time. Stoke City again began the second half pressing and asking questions of the Tamworth defence, Adie Smith saved his team with a great tackle on Luke Chadwick who had got beyond the Tamworth defence. Following the 0-0 draw ten days previous, Tamworth were rewarded with a replay at The Lamb Ground. Unsurprisingly the Tamworth players were to play infront of their highest home crowd of the season, when 3,812 took their places in the ground hoping for Tamworth to continue their unbelievable FA Cup adventure and defeat Stoke City. Tamworth fought hard in the first-half and created chances as well as defending very well just like they had done in the previous tie. Paul Gallagher had two great chances which he blazed over the bar. Tamworth took the lead on the 42nd minute, after hard work from Carl Heggs who showed great strength to rip through the Stoke City defence before playing the ball across the box for Nathan Jackson to slot the ball into the empty net. Tamworth went in a half-time one goal up, the Tamworth fans sensed that there was a great chance the club may actually beat Stoke City. The second period didn't produce any miracles from Tamworth and their chance of any sort of comeback was dented when Norwich City took a three goal lead on the 51st minute through Darren Huckerby whos tame shot some how managed to scramble under the body of José Veiga. Tamworth then made a change on the 56th minute bringing on Taiwo Atieno for Steve Burton in a bid to add some firepower to the front line. Norwich City wrapped up the goalscoring on the 62nd minute when Dion Dublin capitalised on a miss kick from Tom Kemp to make the score 4-0.
