Established in 1955, Tappara was a reformation of the club TBK, an abbreviation of Tammerfors Bollklubb. Today, the full name of the company that owns the club is Tamhockey Oy. Among the most successful teams in Finland, the team has won the Finnish Championship 12 times (and predecessor TBK three times).
