Founded in 1994, The Tattoo Teen Newspaper is the largest teen-written newspaper in the world. It is published online at www.readthetattoo.com and in more than 145 printed issues through 2005.

The Tattoo, which bills itself as offering "the best teen journalism in the world," started publishing online in 1996 and in 2005 began a separate blog at www.thetattooblog.com. The Tattoo, which is run by journalists Jackie Majerus and Steve Collins, has writers in many countries and across the United States. It is based in Connecticut. Its most widely read work was a journal about Hurricane Katrina's impact written by Samantha Perez, a St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana high school senior. Perez began writing on August 29, 2005, the day the hurricane hit her hometown, and updated it into 2006 in more than 25 lengthy entries. The Tattoo has argued repeatedly over the years that newspapers need to pay more attention to young readers and to take them seriously. It has pushed, with little success, for the news industry to recognize that young people are interested in more than "music, movies and celebrity fluff." However, The Tattoo has been known to edit teen's work to make it fit word limits and they have a tendency to post the edited pieces online before getting approval from the teen.
