Encyclopedia > Tazenda

Tazenda is a planet that plays an important role in Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

The position of the planet was in Pelot's Nebula. When (and only when) viewed from Trantor, this star was at the tip of a 'knife' of stars buried in the nebula. Because it was at the end of this knife, and because Hari Seldon spent most of his life on Trantor, and the similarity of the name, Bail Channis, a soldier of the Mule, concluded that the Second Foundation was located on Tazenda. It fit the social descriptions of a location for the Second Foundation: it was an oligarchy that ruled over 27 worlds, enough to defend itself but not enought to be conspicuous; throughout its history, Tazenda stayed out of all interstellar politics. The planet was destroyed by the Mule in 302 F.E.
