As the Turtles escort April back to her apartment, the Foot find the lair and kidnap Splinter. They carry him back to their headquarters, where their master Shredder is forming an army of ninja-trained teenagers to build himself a crime-empire. After taking some time to get over their defeat, the Turtles refine their ninja skills in anticipation of their return. They then go back to New York and take on the Foot while Casey rescures Splinter. The Turtles take the battle to the sewers, the streets, and ultimately the rooftops for the final showdown between Splinter and Shredder. When The Shredder tries to spear him, Splinter uses Michaelangelo's nunchaku to grab the spear and flip Shredder to the side of the building. With the spear stuck in the nunchaku, the Shredder throws a knife at Splinter, but Splinter catches it. This causes Splinter to let go of the nunchaku and Shredder falls off the roof of the building and into a garbage truck.
The Rated "R" version Steve Barron, the director of the film, wanted the film to closely follow the comic. So his intetion was to make the film dark and gritty. The film opens with April being raped (not just mugged) and being saved by the turtles. The turtles was to swear, drink beer, and be more rude that in the finished film. Not to mention more killing in the film. However, the producers thought that with the recent cartoon version of the film, they should make it more kid friendly. So much of the origional cut was droped and new shots were filmed to tone it down.
