Tellarites are a porcine/humanoid species whose facial features are somewhat pig-like. They have black pupils set in deep eye sockets and large snouts. Tellarites are very hairy; besides having beards and large bushy hair, they also have coarse pinkish-brown skin. In Star Trek: The Original Series they are portrayed as having 3 fingers, but in Star Trek: Enterprise, not only is their facial make-up updated, they also have 5 fingers.
Tellarites are renowned for being rather direct and forceful in conversation, and are known to be so quarrelsome that arguing is a sport on their home planet, Tellar.
History
Tellarites were first contacted by humans on March 21, 2153 by the Starfleet ship Enterprise NX-01. Although this encounter was rather hostile (a Tellarite bounty hunter kidnapped Captain Archer), the relations between humans and Tellarites apparently improved in the next few years until both species became founding members of the United Federation of Planets in 2161. For the next several hundred years, Tellarites continued to be an important species in the Federation (even though we only rarely saw them onscreen).
Technology
As of 2153, the Tellarites have more advanced ships than Earth; even their smaller shuttle craft can attain speeds of warp 4 (around 64 times the speed of light on the old warp scale, 101 times on the new one).

Tellarites were a warp capable race from the class M planetTellarPrime, located not far from the Sol system.
In November 2154, a Tellarite delegation led by Ambassador Gral was being transported to the planetoid Babel by the Enterprise to resolve a long standing trade dispute with the Andorians.
Tellarites are covered with a small but tough layer of wool-like matting over most of their body, and their hands feature four stubby fingers.
Tellarite bone and cartilage structures are much more massive than their Human counterparts, resulting in a much greater physical strength and innate resistance to bodily damage.
While the threat of cutting off the availability of Tellarite technicians to the Federation is a matter of some concern, especially to the independent shipyards who do not have access to the latest Star Fleet innovations, this has not generated sufficient pressure to sway the High Council in their deliberations.
