Encyclopedia > Terameter

A terametre (American spelling: terameter) (symbol: Tm) is a unit of length equal to 1012 metres.

Terametres are almost never seen in practical use, because they are too big for any terrestrial application, and astronomers have been long accustomed to use millions of kilometers and astronomical units (AU) instead.

  • 1 Tm is equal to 6.685 AU
  • the mean radius of Saturn's orbit is 1.43 Tm
  • the mean radius of Neptune's orbit is 4.50 Tm
  • as of January of 2004, the Voyager 1 probe was at a distance of 13.5 Tm from the Sun
  • light travels the distance of 1 terametre in 55 min 36 s
