In April of 2007, Terry Moran found himself embroiled in controversy over an article which he wrote, stating that people should not harbor too much sympathy for the three Duke LaCrosse players who were falsely accused of raping a striper. Mr. Moran's article seemed to advocate the position that the three Duke LaCrosse players may have played some part in their own demise, as they were responisble for attending a party where alcohol was served and strippers were requested for entertainment. Mr. Moran's article was perceived by many people to be advocating a "leftist" agenda. The blog site where this article was posted became indundated with negative responses to Mr. Moran's thesis. However, Mr. Moran received support from some who believed his article addressed inherent unfairness in the judicial process. Many of the blog responses posted have made inevitable references to shock jock Don Imus's statements, regarding the Rutgers Womens Basketball Team. As a result of Mr. Moran's article, an internet petition, started by Johnathan T. Ball of McAllen, Texas, has begun to circulate calling for ABC to terminate Mr. Moran's employment. See ipeititions.com/petition/fireterrymoran. Terry Moran graduated from Lawrence University in 1982 and received the Lucia R. Briggs Distinguished Achievement Award in 2003.
