Encyclopedia > The Barefoot Contessa

The Barefoot Contessa is a 1954 film directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Edmond O'Brien.

With The Barefoot Contessa, Mankiewicz attempted to do for the world of cinema what he had achieved with All About Eve for the world of the stage. Despite, or perhaps even because of, his extensive experience with the cinema, compared with only second-hand knowledge of the stage, this film was far less successful than its predecessor.
