Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990s Sierra Leone, "Blood Diamond" is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a South African mercenary, and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives. While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon - who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields - has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory, a journey that could save Solomon's family and give Archer the second chance he thought he would never have. Hi guys, just scored a PILE of pics of Leonardo DiCaprio filming The Blood Diamond in London!

The movie is set in Sierra Leone and follows DiCaprio as a South African mercenary who discovers that an extraordinarily rare pink diamond has been found by Djimon Hounslou's character and together they trek through rebel territory in a journey that will redeem one of them and bring hope to the other.

And as you can see from the pics there's a London Red bus featuring prominently in the background? So just why is a London Red bus being filmed for a film set in Sierra Leone?

They weren't filming this scene in Sierra Leone, it was being filmed in London! And to be more specific in the City of London area. The real business heart of London.

While we didn't manage to find out why, I think I'm going to hazard a guess that DiCaprio's character would have been there setting up a deal to sell the fabled Blood Diamond?

Cheers

Blood Diamonds: Diamond Source of Virginia Loose Diamonds Education (1865 words)
Blood diamonds got their start in 1992 in the bush war of Angola, where UNITA leader Jonas Savimbi, seeking new ways to finance his army, looked to the country's vast diamond fields to extend the smuggling business that his rebel movement had pioneered in the 1970s and 1980s.
The blood diamond issue took on greater significance, however, after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, when media reports cited evidence that diamonds were used by terrorist organizations, including al Qaeda, as a means of transferring their wealth globally.
Blood Diamonds is the gripping tale of how the diamond smuggling works, how the rebel war has effectively destroyed Sierra Leone and its people, and how the policies of the diamond industry - institutionalized in the 1880s by the De Beers cartel - have allowed it to happen.
