History

The school was founded in 1930 by Commander William F. Bullis, great grandfather of Michael T. Bullis, as a preparatory school for the United States Naval Academy. Its first location in Washington D.C. was moved to suburban Silver Spring, Maryland in 1934, then to Potomac, Maryland in the 1960s. The school completed construction of the Blair Center for the Arts in 2003, a multi-million dollar facility with state-of-the-art equipment for music, drama, and the visual arts. In 2005 Bullis constructed Kline Alumni Stadium and installed a NexTurf Field for use by all sports. In the next ten years, Bullis plans to expand the school, adding a host of new buildings to its campus. Academic Requirements

All Bullis students must fulfill the following distribution of credits to receive a diploma:

• 4 credits of English
• 3 credits of Math (through Algebra II)
• 3 credits of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
• 3 credits of Social Studies (including U.S. History)
• 2 credits of Foreign Language (through Level III)
• 2 credits of Visual and Performing Arts
• 1/3 credit of Health
• 2 credits of Physical Education

Most Bullis students take six courses each trimester, along with a daily Study Hall. However, many students choose to take seven courses; taking a second foreign language or psychology is quite common. Furthermore, seniors usually opt to forgo a history elective in search of another study hall.

Tuition

The tuition and fees for students range from $25,000 to $28,000 per year based on their level of study.

Advanced Placement Offerings

The Bullis School offers many different Advanced Placement classes to its high school students. For the 2006-2007 school year, no student is allowed to take more than four Honors or Advanced Placement classes during any given trimester without approval from the Academic Dean^[1]. Advanced Placement (AP) is the term used to describe high school classes that are taught at a college level. ...
