Biography

The Clipse met record producer Pharrell Williams, of the Neptunes, in the early 1990s and Williams helped them to secure a record deal through Elektra Records. They recorded their debut album Exclusive Audio Footage, but it was ultimately shelved. Despite this, a track from the album--"The Funeral"--was officially released as a single; unfortunately, it was a commercial flop, even though it had created a substantial buzz and a music video was filmed. Williams helped to resuscitate their careers in the early 2000s by signing them to Artista Records, through his Star Trak imprint.

It was through Star Trak / Artista that the Clipse released their acclaimed debut album Lord Willin' on August 26th, 2002. The album's first single, "Grindin'" achieved greater success than their intial single, climbing to the #30 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They followed with "When the Last Time" and "Ma, I Don't Love Her" both charting #86 and #19, respectively.

After the success of Lord Willin', the Clipse prepared to release their sophmore album, Hell Hath No Fury. Unfortunately, the album, and the Clipse themselves, were left in limbo after Artista merged with Jive Records. Pharrell Williams tried to change the situation and sign them to thier label's new home at Geffen Records. In the interim, the Clipse continued to make music, releasing several underground singles and mixtapes, including the We Got It 4 Cheap series. It was around this time when they formed the Re-Up Gang, consisting of themselves and rappers Ab-Liva and Sandman, and at the same time forming their own label imprint, Re-Up Records.

It was only recently that the Clipse came to an agreement which would land their newly minted Re-Up Records with Jive. Their murky status with the label resolved, they are once again planning the release of Hell Hath No Fury, which is slated to drop on August 29th, 2006. The first single from the album will be "Mr. Me Too" with Pharrell Williams. MySpace.com - CLIPSE - VIRGINIA BEACH - Hip Hop / Rap - www.myspace.com/clipse (923 words)
Clipse have never heard of the sophomore jinx.
Their new album, Hell Hath No Fury is every bit as adventurous as their inaugural LP: wickedly crafted rhymes that walk the tightrope of guilt and glee as experienced by conscientious drug dealers; avant-garde music tracks out of time and space that rock like a players ball held in a damp basement.
Make no mistake, with Hell Hath No Fury the Clipse, along with producer and mentor Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes, have created an album of grooving introspection, bouncing escapism and swirling remorse even more nuanced and body-shocking than the lamentations of their first album.
