Characters

Massie Block

Massie is an only child, and lives in an estate with a swimming pool, multiple cabanas, a tennis court, a stone guest house (in which Claire and her family reside), a spa, a gym, and more. She lives in Westchester, New York and has a pug named Bean and a horse, Brownie, which Massie rides at the exclusive stable Galwaugh Farms. She is also the leader of a clique called "The Pretty Committee", a group consisting of herself and her friends, Alicia, Dylan, Claire and Kristen. And she adores her pug and she loves cell phones. Her parents are William and Kendra Block. William is a very successful businessman. They rarely punish Massie except in the summer collection, when they order her to get a summer job to pay for the summer riding camp she was kicked out of. But in Invasion of the Boy Snatchers for example, her mother, Kendra, accuses Claire for Massie's wrongdoing.Massie is described as having shiny, brunette hair, sparkling amber eyes, and a slim toned body thanks to Pilates. Massie's hair style changes throughout the series. In the first book, Massie has a shoulder length bob. She gets caramel-colored highlights in Best Friends for Never, and crimps her hair in Invasion of the Boy Snatchers. Massie gets hair extensions in Dial L For Loser. She also has a razor cut and bangs in Sealed with a Diss, though she got them in "It's Not Easy Being Mean", because It's Not Easy ends a couple minutes before Sealed with a Diss starts. Massie is always stylish and has a huge walk-in closet filled with designer clothing, bags and shoes. Her clothing style is the most glamorous out of The Pretty Committee girls, and she doesn't wear anything unless it is designer wear.

Claire Lyons

Claire Lyons is the “New Girl” of the Pretty Committee and the most probable main protagonist of the series. Also, Claire at the beginning of the series, was teased constintly by the Pretty Commitee, but survived months and is now a new member. She lives in the Block’s guesthouse and, over the course of the series, has become very close friends with Massie. In the beginning of the series she is somewhat innocent and naïve, but is forced to mature as the cruel treatment from the Pretty Committee causes her to become more aware of what people think of her. She is really obsessed with her boyfriend,Cam Fisher, whom Massie liked first. In Dial L For Loser, Claire becomes a celebrity and must mature even more due to hateful treatment from Massie and her so-called celebrity friends at the end of the book. In the 9th book Claire becomes jealous of her ex boyfriends relationship with Olivia.

Dylan Marvil

Dylan Marvil is the Pretty Committee's bridge to Hollywood and celebrities. Dylan's mother, Merri-Lee Marvil, hosts the very popular talk show, The Daily Grind. Dylan is a very stubborn girl, but is also very self-conscious. She continuously worries about her weight, even though she is described as being a healthy weight. Along with her talk of her weight, Dylan is also considered the 'pig' or the 'comic relief' of the books. She is the only member of the Pretty Committee who is not afraid to eat in front of people, mainly boys, and she loves to belch. Dylan is described as having curly, fiery red hair, though in Bratfest at Tiffany's, she returns with stick-straight hair. Unfortunately, in the same novel, she is outside in rain and her hair goes back to being curly. It is unknown if she will re-straighten her hair. In the book " The Pretty Committee Strikes Back" she later develops a crush on Chris Plovert, who is not sure if he has any feeling for her at all.

Alicia Rivera

Alicia Rivera is the second-in-command or “Beta” of the Pretty Committee, as well as the "Beauty". In the first book, the “Beta” position was filled by Dylan Marvil but sometime between the second novel (Best Friends for Never) and third (Revenge of the Wannabes) Alicia became Massie’s “beta”. In the first three books, she expresses the desire to start her own clique with Olivia Ryan, but when she does so in the third book, Revenge of the Wannabes, Massie goes after her and quickly unravels Alicia’s clique, humiliating Alicia in the process. After “Revenge Of The Wannabes” Alicia seems much more content with her role as the “beta” The Briarwood Boys consider her to be extremely hot, and she has a reputation as being the prettiest girl at OCD. This slightly irritates Massie, along with the fact she is slightly richer. She is described of having dark brown hair and big brown eyes. She also is very tan and constantly saying things like given and point.

Kristen Gregory

Kristen Gregory is the “Athlete” and the “Genius” of the Pretty Committee. While she is part of the Pretty Committee, she hardly has main plotlines revolving around her. She is very smart and attends Octavian County Day school on a scholarship. It is revealed about halfway through the first book that Kristen is “poor”. It is unknown if the Gregory’s are actually poor or if they are simply middle-class, which would probably be considered poor by Westchester standards. She stands as the reason to the Pretty Committee, always at hand with a witticism or moral. While she has a tendency to switch to the winning side during fights, she proves to be a very loyal friend to the entire Pretty Committee. Kristen is also described as being blond and her chest is flat and muscular.

Inconsistencies

The Clique books are often criticized for their numerous inconsistencies, such as: + Derrick becoming Derek as the books progressed + Kristen's eye color changing from aqua to green to blue + Cam's hair color changing from black to golden brown + Massie throwing away her original charm bracelet, but making several references to squeezing certain charms that were only on the one she threw away (Book 9) + The original 'beta' in book one being Dylan, but then becoming Alicia in the later books. + Cam's brother Harris Fisher's Mustang switches between red and black. + In the first few books, Derek is the star forward, and then changed to the star goalie.
