Plot

Sonny Steele (Robert Redford) is a former rodeo rider who has sold his soul to business conglomerate Ampco and is now reduced to selling breakfast cereal. Prior to riding at business show in Las Vegas, Sonny discovers that the horse, Rising Star, has been drugged and injured. In order to save the horse, Sonny plans to steal it and release it in the remote western countryside. Hallie Martin (Jane Fonda), a city reporter who is eager to be the first to cover the Rising Star story falls in love with Sonny and the country lifestyle.
