The Father Christmas Letters is a collection of letters written by "Father Christmas" to J.R.R Tolkien's children. They were written between 1920 and 1942. They tell of various adventures and misadventures at the North Pole. The Houghton Mifflin hardcover edition was released in 1998. It was edited by Baillie Tolkien, the second wife of Christopher Tolkien. A part of it are Tolkien's drawings. Nearly each letter is illustrated. That gives to that book a very special charm. Two different publications have come out concerning this book. The original publication back in the 1970s omitted several letters and drawings. When the book was republished in recent years, several letters and drawings not contained in the original publication were added.
