The Iowa Review is an American literary magazine that publishes stories, poems, essays and reviews, many of which are later reprinted in annual anthologies.[1]


Founded in 1971, the magazine is issued three times a year (in April, August, and December).[1] It is published at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The University of Iowa, or Iowa for short, is a major national research university located on a 1,900-acre campus in Iowa City, Iowa, USA, on the Iowa River in East Central Iowa. ... According to the magazine's Web site, "Several hundred unsolicited manuscripts arrive each week through most of the year, from throughout the country and abroad, from which we select most of our contents."[2]

Iowa Awards

The magazine gives out the Iowa Awards for fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction. Outside judges name the winners, who each receive $1,000 and are published, along with some finalists, in the magazine's December issue.[1]
