In many countries, a prolonged inability to stay in one's lane is considered to be a symptom of driving under the influence and may lead to a citation or arrest for a moving violation.
A transfer lane of a road is used to move from express lanes to collector lanes, or vice-versa; it is somewhat similar to an auxiliary lane.
A merge lane is a lane or onramp used to merge two flows of traffic into one, with the merge lane being the lane that disappears at the end of the merging area.

The blue lane installation instructs drivers continuing to the same destination in an intersection (the right-turning motorists) to yield to others who are crossing their line of travel to reach a different destination (the through-traveling bicyclists).
Many motorists who are going to turn right enter this block of Broadway in the second lane out from the curb, and do not merge right until the blue lane has begun to angle out from the right curb, further increasing the risk to bicyclists who do not look back for traffic.
The bike lane is carried across the right side of the previous intersection, encouraging motorists to turn right from the left side of bicyclists at the far side of the intersection and bicyclists to keep right until the designated merge location.
