Music video | | This section may contain original research or unverified claims. Please improve the article by adding references. See the talk page for details. (April 2008) | A music video was produced for "The Nobodies," which features a highly theatrical, symbolic presentation. The video addresses the theme of control of the public, particularly children, by a commercial theocracy. Two children, dressed in tattered clothes, are portrayed to be held in crude and oppressive conditions in a cold dirty room, by two characters dressed in white, elaborate costumes visually representative of a clerical leader or religious participant. This part of the video is in cold hues, such as grey, black, and blue. The children escape, crawling through tunnels and past guard dogs, and are received by Manson in a great hall. The color scheme of Manson's hall and costume is dark browns, red, and maroon, much warmer than the clerics who imprisoned the children. Manson, attired in a costume reminiscent of a witch or sorcerer, receives the children and wraps them in his cloak. He is observed interacting with the guardians of the children, who kneel and kiss his ring. He tosses money at them, and they scramble to pick it up off the ground. Manson is shown facing off with the guard dogs which snap and bark in his face, presumably representing him defending the children from the violence of their pursuers. Interspersed with these images are brief shots of Manson, dressed in a third costume reminiscent of a wood demon, in cold blue hues, who writhes violently in a snowy landscape. His band are a part of these montages. A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music, most commonly a song. ...
The closure of the video shows the children, well dressed and clean, standing in Manson's hall. Shreds of fabric representing the clerics are passed through a grinding machine on a production belt, and a pie emerges, presumably filled with the crushed clerics. The children and Manson sit at the table and begin to eat the pie together, in the manner of a formal feast. The tone is one of triumph and escape of the children over their captors, with Manson as their liberator and advocate. The technical presentation of the video uses shaking camera techniques, varying perspective shots, closeups, and fast scene shot changes.
The Columbine connection The lyrics refer to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the shooters of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. Manson harshly criticizes the public's response to the killings, singing: Eric David Harris (April 9, 1981 â April 20, 1999) and Dylan Bennet Klebold (September 11, 1981 â April 20, 1999) were the high school seniors who committed the Columbine High School massacre. ...
The Columbine High School massacre occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in unincorporated Jefferson County, Colorado (the CDP of Columbine) near Denver and Littleton. ...
- Some children died the other day,
- We fed machines and then we prayed,
- Puked up and down in morbid faith,
- You should have seen the ratings that day.
After the shootings, the media widely reported that listening to Manson's music drove the boys to kill, though in fact they didn't appear to be fans of the band. An interview with him about the Columbine shootings was featured in the Michael Moore documentary Bowling for Columbine. When asked what he would say to the boys if he had the chance to talk to them, Manson replied, "I wouldn't say a single word to them; I'd listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did." Michael Francis Moore (born April 23, 1954) is an American political-activist, a film director, author, social commentator, and political humorist. ...
