History

The group was formed in Weilheim, near Munich, in 1989 with this line-up: Markus Acher (Guitar, Vocals), Michael Acher (Bass), and Mecki Messerschmidt (Drums). Martin Gretschmann (aka Console) joined the group in 1997. In 1990 they recorded their self-titled debut, a grunge-metal orientated LP. Their second album, Nook, released in 1992 is the group's first indie-rock record that is followed by 12 which contains their first small flirtation with electronics. Shrink, released in 1998 is a jazz-electro-rock album, that in some ways anticipates Radiohead's Amnesiac. Their album, Neon Golden (released in 2002) put them on the map for American listeners, with its heartfelt sentiment and catchy tunes. The group has been remixed by Four Tet, Manitoba, Console, Loopspool, and others. Singer Markus Acher collaborated with Anticon rapper/producer Alias on the song "Unseen Sights," an effort, that while not considered to be among either artist's best work, shows a surprising musical breadth for both artists.
