Skinner cuts back on funding for school supplies. Enraged at his penny pinching, Mrs Krabappel rallies support from fellow teachers and warns a strike is imminent. Bart however manipulates both parties hoping to close down the school. The teachers go on strike and the students are given too much free time. Lisa has withdrawal symptoms and even Bart shows signs of strange behavior. Marge sets out to reopen the school and organises a PTA meeting. Both sides refuse to solve their differences. The PTA is left to replace the teachers with Springfield citizens. Marge takes Bart's class and Jimbo and Kearney start picking on him. Determined to be safe in school, Bart devises a strategy to reunite Skinner and Krabappel, trapping them in a room together. The school reopens, deciding to lease classroom closet space to overcrowded prisons in order to raise money to increase salaries.
